• The Arlington Academy of Hope (AAH) is a volunteer, not-for-profit organization based in the United States that helps children in rural Uganda to reach their full potential. AAH has built a school and two medical clinics and supports more than 18 local schools in Bududa and Manafwa districts. By creating model schools and medical clinics, AAH provides education and healthcare programs, local development opportunities, and community outreach to improve the quality of life and transform poor villages into self-sustaining communities. AAH engages a caring community of volunteers, child sponsors, donors, partners and friends in the United States, Uganda, and throughout the world. The primary school sponsorship covers students who are enrolled at AAH’s school in Bumwalukani village. The school has 340 students, from grade 1 through 7, the customary seven-year elementary school program in Uganda.
• AAH has a special mentoring program for girls who attend the AAH primary school and those who receive AAH secondary school scholarships. The program addresses the unique obstacles to getting an education that girls face by providing special tutoring and mentoring, workshops on health and hygiene, and by bringing in professional Ugandan women to model success and speak to the girls about their careers.

Students on sponsorship write three letters a year to She’s the First, and the letters are posted to the site. Letters are delivered back and forth by volunteers who go to work at the school. Sponsors may send small inexpensive gifts such as stickers, maps, photos, etc. Expensive gifts are discouraged unless they can be shared with the whole school. We will notify you when we receive a new letter, and you may correspond with your sponsored student through our site.
Please note it may take up to a month for a sponsorship to process.
