She’s the First Hosts Its First Social Media Week Event to Teach Others How to Harness the Power of Social Media
A diverse panel of social good experts and entrepreneurs tell stories of their greatest social media hits so that you can work your own magic to make a difference.
February 8, 2012—She’s the First is out to prove that social media can really make a difference by hosting its first ever Social Media Week event, The New Face of Social Good: How Make Your Own Social Media Magic! on Thursday, February 16, at 6 p.m. in New York City at Social Media Week’s official social and environmental change hub in the Thomson Reuters building at 3 Times Square. The event will be introduced by international fashion icon Alek Wek, the legendary Sudanese supermodel who recently turned to Twitter and Skype to be a stronger advocate for the famished in Africa, and moderated by Mashable’s Emily Banks. Tweet in your questions using #SMWMagic and walk away with solid techniques and tips for creating your own social media magic.
During this exciting and interactive event, audience members will learn from four dynamic guests speakers—Tammy Tibbetts, She’s the First Founder and President; Adam Braun, Pencils of Promise Founder and Executive Director; Mike Radparvar, HOLSTEE Co-Founder; and Susan McPherson, Director of Global Marketing at Fenton Communications—who will each share little-known stories on how one social media status update created a spark or started a ripple effect that ultimately launched huge movements and programs, changed lives, and achieved meaningful social change. Through hashtags and retweets, supporters will sponsor the education of Eli, a senior in Tanzania. For each use of the hashtag #SMWMagic, The Think Cloud LLC has generously offered to donate $1, until we fully sponsor Eli’s last year in school!
She’s the First president and founder Tammy Tibbetts, who was recently chosen as a Bloomberg Businessweek Fellow to represent She’s the First at the Sandbox Global Summit in Lisbon said, “She’s the First would not be where it is today without the power of social media. I’m honored that we can bring together our supporters with founders and experts whom we deeply admire in the social good space, because social media is only as good as the relationships it ultimately creates in the offline world.”
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required by clicking the following link: http://socialmediaweek.org/event/?event_id=1167
